Sugar Free, Fat Free, Gluten Free; What You Need To Know About These Foods
07 Apr   by Lisa

With our improving knowledge of how unhealthy the typical American diet is, shoppers are being persuaded by food manufacturers to purchase "free" foods touting them as better for you.  But they may not be so good for you.  Sure if you're lactose intolerant, "dairy free" may be something that would be enticing.  If you've got Celiac disease, you may be inclined to purchase "gluten free" foods since foods with gluten are detrimental to their health.  But many people who do not necessarily need these foods are persuaded to purchase them as they are advertised as foods that are beneficial for everyone.  But are they?

This great article explains what each "free" food means, what to watch out for, common substitutions and what to look for on the label.  http://www.chicagotribune.com/health/sc-health-0404-free-from-foods-20120404,0,4613873.story?track=rss
